Dr. Panagiotis Neofytou holds a Research Director post in the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” and is acting head of the Thermal Hydraulics and Multiphase Flow Laboratory (THEM-Lab).
He obtained his undergraduate degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Technical University of Athens and subsequently studied for his PhD in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
In 2002 he joined the Institute of Nuclear Technology & Radiation Protection and is since actively engaged in the coordination and implementation of EU and domestically funded projects.
Over the past 20 years he has specialised in the development and application of advanced computational algorithms mainly for modelling of non-Newtonian fluid dynamics for physiological flows. He participated in several European research projects such as ROSE, OSCAR, REVEAL, HENVINET, NANEX, EC4SAFENANO and NanoinformaTIX.
He was Principal Investigator of European research projects SCAFFOLD, MIFIS and project DEKA funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology with an overall budget of 350 thousand euros.
He has a record of more than 60 publications in refereed international journals and international conference proceedings and is a member of the “Virtual Physiological Human” Network of Excellence.
NanoInformaTIX develops a web-based Sustainable Nanoinformatics Framework (SNF) platform for risk management of engineered nanomaterials (ENM) in industrial manufacturing. The tool will be based on the significant amounts of data on physico-chemical and toxicological and ecotoxicological properties ...
RES4BUILD will decarbonise the energy consumption in buildings by developing integrated renewable energy-based solutions that are tailored to the needs and requirements of users and installers. The consortium’s multidisciplinary team of experts will:
Knowledge about nanotechnology-enabled processes and products and related nanosafety issues (hazards, fate, risk...) is growing rapidly, achieved through numerous European or national programs launched over the last decade, but effective use of this knowledge for risk management by market actors is ...
SCAFFOLD collected, reviewed and analyzed relevant quantitative and qualitative information and data on current strategies, methods and tools for workers protection against manufactured nanomaterials (MNMs), in order to identify needs and gaps for proper risk management. Four main topics were analyz...
Nanotechnology is a fast-growing industry producing a wide variety of manufactured nanomaterials (MNMs) and numerous potential applications. Consequently, the potential for exposure to humans and the environment is likely to increase. Human exposure to MNMs and environmental release of these materia...
