MARKOPOULOS
ANGELOS

Phd Candidate, Physicist

Angelos Markopoulos has obtained a Bachelor Degree (BSc) in Physics from the Physics Department of the Faculty of Sciences at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a Master Degree (MSc) in Radiation Physics and Medical Physics and since 2020, he is a PhD candidate on “Radiological Characterization of Activated Reactor Components”, which carried out within the framework of the European project PREDIS, Horizon 2020. The PhD thesis will be supported at the School of Physics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Since 2017, he is a member of the Laboratory of Radioactive Materials Management and he participates in the Radioactive Waste & Material Management Group at the Institute of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences and Technology, Energy and Safety of NCSR “Demokritos”. In the frame of the activities of the Laboratory, he deals with radiation protection and radiation safety issues for the operation of the Radioactive Waste & Sources Management Facility of the NCSRD, preparing technical reports related to gamma spectrometry, radiation protection, nuclear safety and security and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. In the framework of his research activities, he deals with the development of radiological characterization methods. His research aims at the development of techniques related to the radiological characterization of activated reactor components.

He is an author or co –author of 11 technical reports related to the activities of the laboratory. He also has two (2) published papers in conference proceedings and participations in international meetings organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on radiological characterization, decommissioning of nuclear facilities and radioactive waste management.
