Dr Kalliopi Manola is Research Director with expertise in cytogenetic and molecular investigation of genetic diseases and hematological malignancies. Her scientific interests include genetic and epigenetic investigation of leukemogenesis and investigation of genetic predisposition of multifactorial diseases. She holds BSc in Biology (1993) and PhD from Medical School of Kapodistrian University of Athens (2003). She has been trained in molecular biology techniques in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the University of Wales (1993) and in molecular techniques of hematological malignancies in the Department of Medical & Molecular Genetics, King’s College, London, UK (2014).
She is the Representative Cytogeneticist of Greece in the European Working Group (EWOG- MDS/JMML/SAA) of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML) and Severe Aplastic Anemia (SAA) in Childhood as well as the Representative Cytogeneticist of Greece in the European study group of Acute Myeloid Leukemia in the framework of the European polycentric clinical study AIEOP-AML-BFM 2020.
She is responsible for karyotypic and molecular cytogenetic evaluation of bone marrow samples from patients with hematological malignancies and peripheral blood samples from people with genetic syndromes and infertile couples. She is official member of the European LeukemiaNet (Network of Excellence) and a scientific member of many international and Greek scientific societies such as European Cytogeneticists Association (ECA), European Hematology Association (EHA) and European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG). She has contributed to funding by participating in health services provided by the laboratory for more than 20 years and in funded research programs.
