MAKRYPIDI KONSTANTINA

Makrypidi Konstantina, PhD candidate, is occupied with a European research program in the laboratory of Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry and Radiochemistry and Radioisotopes of the Institute of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences and Technology, Energy and Security of NCSR “Demokritos” since 2020.

Her doctoral dissertation is carried out at the Department of Pharmacy, School of Health Sciences at National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), in collaboration with NCSR “Demokritos”. Her research activity is focused on the design, synthesis, characterization and evaluation of molecules with pharmacological interest as well as their radiolabeling with various radioisotopes. Radiolabeled molecules can be used as diagnostic agents for prostate cancer imaging, tumor hypoxia, aggregation of proteins associated with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, as well as tumors overexpressing the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR).

Konstantina’s scientific pursuits are not limited only to this branch of Chemistry but start earlier, during her B.Sc. in the Department of Chemistry of NKUA. She completed her studies (2017) acquiring a thesis in the laboratory of Industrial Chemistry, where she also participated in a published research, in an international scientific journal, entitled “A Remarkable Effect of Aluminum on the Novel and Efficient Aqueous-Phase Hydrogenation of Levulinic Acid into γ-Valerolactone Using Water-Soluble Platinum Catalysts Modified with Nitrogen-Containing Ligands”. Followingly she received her M.Sc. in “DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOUNDS” with orientation in “RADIOPHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY” (2019) from the Department of Pharmacy of NKUA.
