Dr. Georgia Terzoudi is Director of Research at the Institute of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences, Technology, Energy & Safety, NCSR “Demokritos” working in Health Physics, Radiobiology & Cytogenetics Laboratory. She holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Athens (1991), an M.Sc. in Radiation Biology from the University of London, UK (1993), and a PhD in Radiobiology & Biodosimetry from the University of Athens (1998). She has been awarded “The European Society of Radiation Biology Young Scientist Award 2000”. She is a Qualified Radiation Protection Programme Expert, and since 2017 she serves as the Radiation Protection Officer of NCSR “Demokritos”.
Dr Terzoudi’s research focuses on the biological effects of ionizing radiation, conversion of DNA damage into chromosomal aberrations, biomarkers of radiation exposure and biodosimetry, elucidation of the mechanisms of radiosensitivity, radiation-induced chromosomal instability, chromothripsis and carcinogenesis as well as on non-targeted radiation effects. She participates actively in several large international consortia, associations and networks (EURADOS, RENEB, WHO “BioDoseNet Network for Biological Dosimetry”) exploring new methods for dose and risk assessments in the management of large-scale radiological accidents. She has been awarded considerable funding for her research activities as the Principal Investigator from the European Union, Greek Central Board of Health and the Centers for Medical Countermeasures against Radiation of NIH.
She has delivered invited lectures, seminars and presentations in National, European and International (IAEA) Post-Graduate-Courses and Congresses. She is a member of the Coordinating Committee of Inter-University Post-Graduate-Course in Medical Radiation Physics, and she is in charge of the “Biological effects of ionizing radiation” Course. She has supervised 10 student Ph.D. theses, and more than 20 M.Sc and diploma theses. She serves as a reviewer in many international scientific journals in the field of Radiation Research, she has published 66 papers in peer-reviewed-journals, 6 book-chapters and more than 130 contributions to proceedings of international conferences. Dr Terzoudi has gained long-standing experience and international recognition in the field of Radiation Research. Since 2021 she is the President of the European Radiation Research Society.

For optimal radiation protection in emergency medicine programs it is imperative to focus on early triage biodosimetry for the best possible treatment of individuals involved in radiation accidents. Therefore, improved research strategies adopted for mass-casualty management are critically needed. G...
The extensive use of low doses of ionizing radiation (≤100 mSv) for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes increases concern on the radiation safety of both patients and physicians. Ionizing radiation exposures have almost doubled in the last decade, mainly due to the rise in medical diagnostic and the...
