Associate Researcher, Chemical Engineer

STROGYLOPOULOS GEORGIOS

George is Scientific Associate of the Laboratory of Molecular Physics of INRASTES. He is a chemical engineer (University of Patras, thesis on Biomedical Engineering) with a postgraduate degree in Technology & Innovation Management (SPRU, University of Sussex, UK).  He has worked in Luxembourg & Brussels as a Senior Expert/Advisor on innovation policy and technology transfer for the STOA/European Parliament & the “Innovation Program” of the European Commission. Collaborated with most of DGs of the E.C. and especially DG Research & JRC & DG Regio.  Member of the core team for the methodology of smart specialization at regional & national in the mid-90s & co-author the Green Paper on Innovation in Europe and the first Action Plan for Innovation in Europe (1995-1998). Manager of the Trend Chart on Innovation in Europe & the Innovation Scoreboard for the first two years of their development. Development of the CIS (Community Innovation Survey) methodology and the revision of the Oslo Manual for measuring innovation and technology transfer.

Advisor to regional authorities and national governments on innovation policy, technology transfer and research infrastructures development in almost all EU countries.  Member of the Board of ERAWATCH Network that monitored R&D and Innovation policies in all EU countries. Advisor for the European Parliament (2009-2013) for R&D and Innovation covering all Member States. Member of the UNECE Innovation and Technology Advisory Committee (United Nations, Geneva) since 2014. Co-founder of the non-profit organization Greenovate-Europe based in Brussels supporting green entrepreneurship and innovation for sustainable development counting more than 30 members today.

Policy designer for innovation & R&D in Greece: innovation poles, Alexandria Innovation Zone, Science and Society. He has collaborated with most research and technological bodies in Greece in the areas of R&D financing, promotion of research results and policy design. Project Manager for the development of the National Smart Specialization Strategy of Greece (2014-2020) for GSRT & of the Regions of Attica, Central Greece, Epirus, Ionian Islands and South Aegean. Innovation policy expert for the European Commission-DG Regio on Policy Governance Issues.

He collaborates with the National Center for Scientific Research (NCSR) Demokritos on technology transfer & research infrastructures sustainability and financing. He contributed to the creation and development of the Innovation Office, the Center’s successful proposal to EIB for the financing of renovation & new infrastructures and its nomination as finalist to the European Entrepreneurship Awards.
