Evangelia Livaniou holds a BSc degree in Pharmacy (University of Athens, 1981) and a PhD degree in Pharmacy (University of Patras, 1988; Ph.D.Thesis accomplished in NCSR “Demokritos”). She had been awarded an Alexander von Humboldt post-doctoral fellowship and worked as research associate in the University of Tuebingen, Germany. She had been Assistant Researcher (1995-1998), Senior Researcher (1998-2004), and since 2004 she has been serving as Director of Research at NCSR “Demokritos” [Institute of Radioisotopes & Radiodiagnostic Products (IRRP), currently part of the Institute of Nuclear & Radiological Sciences & Technology, Energy & Safety (INRASTES)]. Her field of expertise is Immunochemistry and her research interests include design, labelling, evaluation and application of antigens and antibodies to in vitro immunochemical techniques for conducting studies on bioactive molecules of low molecular weight (e.g., the vitamin biotin or various immunomodulating peptides). She has published more than 100 articles in scientific journals, proceedings of international congresses and books with more than 1,500 citations, while she has been reviewing a large number of scientific papers (published in Journals, such as Archives of Biochemistry & Biophysics, Chemosphere, Clinical Chemistry, European Journal of Pharmaceutics & Biopharmaceutics, International Journal of Pharmaceutics, Journal of Chromatography A, Journal of Immunological Methods, Peptides, Talanta). She has supervised several PhD, MSc and Diploma students in collaboration with the Universities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioannina and Thessaly, and teaches in post-graduate programs of the University of Athens. She has participated in the accomplishment of many research proposals and has been the Principal Investigator of several national and European research projects (total budget for NCSR “Demokritos” >500,000 euros). She had been Vice Director of IRRP and participated in the Educational Council of NCSR “Demokritos” for many years. Since 2014 she has been participating in Committees for protocol evaluation and welfare assessment of laboratory animals at NCSR “Demokritos”. Since 2018 she has been Vice President of the Ethics Committee of NCSR “Demokritos”.
