H2C2

Hike to hack climate change
2020-2022 | Green Fund

NCSR “Demokritos” ENRACT participates in the H2C2 project, co-ordinated by Koinos Topos Institute.

H2C2 aims to create a communication / storytelling tool for the Kalavrita region, regarding climate change: how the local environment will be affected by climate change and how this affects the daily lives of the people in the area. The project develops, tests and improves educational materials in order to create an ecotourism product, based on an educational walk on Mount Helmos, culminating in a visit to the Atmospheric Pollution and Climate Change Monitoring Station, operated by NCSR “Demokritos”. In addition, H2C2 promotes experiential learning, through the organisation of workshops for citizen scientists, following the STEAM methodology. The project includes other dissemination activities, including the “Climate Change corner”, which will be installed at the ski center of Kalavrita, with over 100,000 visitors annually.

The implementation methodology is based on 4 pillars:

A. Collaborate with local and scientific experts to develop the content of a tour that demonstrates the impact of climate change on the local environment.

B. Development of semi-permanent facilities that can function as materials for the walk, as well as information points for other visitors.

C. Provide support and training to locals to collect data on air pollution as “citizen scientists”, which can be used to provide information to relevant authorities for strategic planning.

D. Sharing information and knowledge locally, from scientists to residents.
