ATTICA MEDICAL PRECISION UNIT 2

Coordinator: National Research Center for Natural Sciences “Demokritos”

Partners: National Research Foundation, Alexander Fleming Biomedical Research Center

Within the framework of the National Precision Medicine Network, the Precision Medicine Unit at NCSR “Demokritos” in collaboration with the NHRF and NCSR “Al. Fleming “will carry out the following activities:

  • Providing specialized diagnostic services for the diagnosis of hereditary predisposition syndromes to cancer, in patients and families with a history of cancer at young ages. The approach is based on the detailed recording of the individual and family history of patients and their families through the creation of family trees. Then, molecular genetic analysis of all known genes related to cancer predisposition is performed using the technology of mass parallel sequencing of the genetic material of the gamete series.
  • Identification and characterization of new genetic loci / genes related to cancer predisposition through collaboration with international consortia.
  • Analysis of the genetic material of tumors from lung cancer, colon, breast, etc. with the aim of identifying clinically useful biomarkers for targeted therapy.
  • Promotion of new biomarkers aimed at personalized treatment

The above activities are based on previous experience and specialization through collaborations with international consortia: Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1 and BRCA2 – CIMBA, Breast Cancer Association Consortium – BCAC, Evidence-based Network for the Interpretation of Germline Mutant Alleles – ENIGMA, Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium – OCAC, Triple Negative Breast Cancer Consortium – TNBCC.
