«CLARION: Machine Health Assessment via Energy Monitoring» funded by «CloudiFacturing: Cloudification of Production Engineering for Predictive Digital Manufacturing» (I4MS), GA 768892, H2020-EU.2.1.1 [2019–2020]

Electric Motor‐Driven Systems EMDS are used in pumps, fans, compressors, and material handling and processing, accounting for around 45% of all global electricity consumption. One way to improve energy efficiency is the replacement of existing motors with eco-efficient ones. Equipment upgrade is usually an important investment, and is not always feasible, especially for SMEs.

The CLARION experiment:

  • offers real-time cloud analytics of large volumes of sensor data collected on-site and transferred on the cloud using CPS and IoT technologies
  • integrates several data analysis modules for energy disaggregation and device monitoring for anomaly detection, as well as Decision Support tools and
  • delivers an overall monitoring platform for Electric Motor‐Driven Systems (EMDS) to assist the plant operators towards reduced energy usage, increased equipment availability and improved process efficiency.

The ultimate goal of the experiment is to combine and cloudify different technologies for Machine Health Assessment via Energy Monitoring. It is expected to deliver a “cloudified” solution to monitor the industrial shop floor and offer to the end-user targeted suggestions on how to improve the energy efficiency and the maintenance plan of the facility to avoid sudden failures and downtime of the production process.
