Principle Investigator (NCSRD): Dr. D. Mastellos
Project DIAMOND addresses the challenges of rapid diagnosis of microbial infections by means of DNA analysis and antibiotic administration only if considered necessary. This will be achieved with the development of a prototype, automated and portable diagnostic platform, based on a lab-on-a-chip where bacterial DNA will be amplified rapidly and efficiently, combined with detection of amplified DNA on a sensitive field-effect transistor (FET) sensor. This novel lab-on-a-chip will be cost efficient, as it will be fabricated on printed circuit board (PCB) substrates, implementing PCB compatible technology and capitalizing on the established PCB industry.
